Sax solos, simple chord progressions, mind boggling runs of notes unplanned and perfect. 16 years of Sunday afternoon Jazz Jams have gone down in Monterey bars and lounges bringing torchbearers of the gospel of American creative expression together to make music that walks with a strut. Usually accompanied by the clinking of cocktail glasses and the hollering and clapping of anyone within ear shot, this is a riot without pepper spray. Bloodshot and sweaty, masters and students, big names and no names; anyone with an open mind and studied chops and fingers take the stage at the Hyatt Fireplace Lounge for a monthly renewal of vows to the unpredictable, fulfilling, frustrating and altogether consuming mistress; Jazz.
