“Wynton Marsalis and Eric Clapton Play the Blues” at Century Cinemas Del Monte Center

It’s not often that music fans bear witness to a collaboration of this impressive magnitude. On one hand: contemporary jazz icon Wynton Marsalis, nine-time Grammy winner and the first jazz musician to be awarded a Pulitzer Prize for Music. On the other: legendary guitarist Eric Clapton, winner of 17 Grammys and the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (for The Yardbirds, Cream and his solo career). Earlier this year, these two celebrated artists joined forces for a special concert event, featuring a repertoire of songs chosen by Clatpon and arranged by Marsalis—including a bluesy take on Clapton’s signature hit “Layla.” The performance, which was recorded at New York City’s Rose Theater back in April, screens in 550 movie theaters nationwide for one night only.
