U.S. parents hell-bent on raising high-performing children often turn to Baby Mozart CDs to cultivate their infant's inner genius, but a new exhibit at the National Steinbeck Center showcases an Italian approach to early learning that's quickly catching on worldwide. "The Wonder of Learning" immerses visitors in the story of Reggio Emilia, a small school in an Italian village of the same name founded in the wake of World War II by community members dedicated to giving their children a high-quality and innovative education. By learning about the world through "many languages" - spoken and physical -, children educated in the Reggio Emilia model become creative thinkers with a passion for problem-solving and exploration.
10am-5pm daily, through November 15. National Steinbeck Center, 1 Main St., Salinas. Free. 775-4721 or www.steinbeck.org.
