September's been a good month for sea otters, with the feds moving to end the icky "no-otter" zone in SoCal and the governor signing our own Assemblyman Bill Monning's bill to extend the otter donation option on state income tax forms. So this last week of the month is a dedicated otter party, as Defenders of Wildlife spearheads a series of talks on the Monterey Bay mascot. Monday, Sept. 26, U.S. Fish & Wildlife expert Lilian Carswell discusses sea otter recovery. 7pm, CSUMB, Room E 127, 5th Avenue, Seaside. Tuesday, Sept. 27, three local otter dynamos take the mic: Sea Studios Executive Director Mark Shelley, UC-Santa Cruz wildlife biologist Tim Tinker and Aquarium otter whisperer Andy Johnson.
7pm. Monterey Bay Aquarium, 886 Cannery Row, Monterey. Free. www.defenders.org/seaotter/awareness.
