Drawing artistic inspiration from flowers is nothing new (just ask O’Keefe, Van Gogh and centuries of still-life painters). But for his latest collection, Photo Synthesis, Monterey-based photographer Huntington Witherill tried to reimagine that well-tread subject matter using a camera lens and digital manipulation. “I attempt to visually transform the subject matter within each composition so that the viewer has an opportunity to discover something beyond the literal rendition of the flowers themselves,” he says. The fantastical and imaginative exhibition opened on August 6 with a reception featuring a print raffle, a book signing and a lecture on digital art by Witherill, and it continues through October 1. 1-5pm Tue-Sun. Center for Photographic Art, Sunset Center, San Carlos and Ninth, Carmel. Free. 625-5181, www.photography.org.
