BIll Evans: The Banjo in America at Magic Circle Theatre

Performing music samples from the 1700s to the present on a variety of vintage instruments, the internationally recognized five-string banjo player dazzles audiences with his picking and explains how the West African instrument has influenced Anglo-American music for over 250 years. As a performer, teacher, writer and composer, Evans traces the linkage between 18th century African dance tunes, the music of the Civil War, ragtime, folk and bluegrass banjo styles. [DVD]
