Not only was Daedalus an expert craftsman in ancient Greek mythology—befitting to its namesake ensemble—but also the mastermind behind the labyrinth that contained the dangerous Minotaur. This highly praised quartet is known for playing with the type of poignancy that could move even a Minotaur, and for stirring magic from whatever dusty works it touches. In the decade since this group formed, they've also proved willing to play provocative new works, as they will in this stunner of a program, which features the world premiere of "White Water," commissioned for the Daedalus quartet by Chamber Music Monterey Bay. (It's the first of four specially commissioned works to premiere this season.) Award-winning composer Joan Tower kickstarts the evening with a free Q&A on her new work. [SR]
