The old adage on child-rearing says it takes a village to raise a child. But the village in which that child grows is also worth considering. In an effort to beautify Salinas communities and encourage people to come outside and interact with their neighbors, a day of volunteer clean-up will be held across seven Salinas city parks. The genesis of the event is to encourage people to celebrate living in Salinas while promoting community service and neighborhood safety. An 8am continental breakfast will be offered at each park, followed by three to four hours of volunteering. There will be “celebrations” at Central, Cesar Chavez and Closter parks beginning at 11am. Each celebration will place special focus on local elementary schools that will be fundraising with food and crafts. [JAF]
