Gypsy at Monterey High School Theater

This classic Broadway musical about, sort of, Broadway musicals, was written by Jule Styne and the inimitable Steven Sondheim and tells the story of Mama Rose, a stagemother who pushes her daughter Loise into the spotlight as a performer, with tumultuous results. Monterey High student-actor-director Anthony Tringali directs a big cast of 45 in one of the school's ambitious productions, which follows in the wake of its successful sell-out run of the adaptation of Mean Girls.
7:30pm Fri-Sat; 2pm Sun; 2pm Sat April 28; runs to April 29. Monterey High School, 101 Herrmann Drive (up Madison Street from Pacific, upper left road), Monterey. $15/adult; $10/senior; $5/student. 277-8658, www.montereyhighdrama.com.
