Classical music listening need not feel like a marathon. This program, "From Fertile Ground," features delightful sprints, or short masterworks selected according to this bit of creative wisdom: “Before the seed there comes the thought of bloom," said E.B. White. This evening of six works plucked from all corners of the world includes the playful Hungarian Dance from Swan Lake, and also the ballet's ginger yet sensual Spanish Dance. Keep dancing through Europe with Bedrich Smetana’s Czech nationalist "Má Vlast," Gabriel Fauré’s love song, "Dolly Suite," Zoltán Kodály’s layered "Dances of Marosszék," and George Enescu’s rollicking "Romanian Rhapsody." This pre-bloom selection of short pieces is the musical equivalent of a night of poetry. [SR]
