Big Sur International Marathon Weekend Events

At this point in the game it will be difficult to secure a spot to run the sold-out Big Sur International Marathon, now in it's 27th presentation but the race is still open to spectators on Sunday and the larger event has plenty to offer those who'd rather stay in bed longer than the race participants, who must catch a bus by 4:45am to the starting line at Pfeiffer State Park. Spectator viewing for the main race events is easily accessible at the Marathon Village area at Rio Rd. and Highway 1. At the more comprehensible hour of 8am in Pacific Grove, 3,500 school age kids and their families will lace up for the JUST RUN! Just Kids Race 3K race, which starts and ends at Lover's Point. The two-day Big Sur Marathon Health & Fitness Expo will kick off Fri., April 27 at noon and features more than 60 vendors, including Hippie Runner and their funky and functional running gear belts. Registration for Saturday's Kids' race will be held Fri., noon - 5pm at the expo. [JAF]
