Even if your household is divided over preferences for the glitz of Hello Dolly, the poetry of Cats or the upright morals of South Pacific, here's an evening of musical comedy that can unite: The Musical of Musical (The Musical!) will meet every musical-lover's needs, and indulge the desire to elbow-jab those whose tastes diverge. The story follows a lovely woman who can't pay her rent, and threatened by her evil landlord, waits for the leading man to rescue her. The plot progresses through stylistic variations, beginning with a dream ballet sequence inspired by Rodgers and Hammerstein, then transforms the landlord into a deranged throat-slasher as per Stephen Sondheim. A Puccini-themed rock musical fashioned after Andrew Lloyd Webber follows. The Monterey Peninsula Theatre Company has enough flair to pull off this performance with style. [SR]
