This Tony-winning Broadway musical by Disney began life as a fairy tale first published (in French) in 1740, but also saw life many times over in many incarnations, including as an opera and as a film by Jean Cocteau (which was then transformed into a opera again, this time by Philip Glass). But when Disney got hold of the story, it became a worldwide animated movie hit and later a successful Broadway musical with catchy music and characters in a story about friendship, trust and the transformative power of love, fit to delight kids. Walt deFaria directs the cast here, with special effects and illusions augmenting songs like "Be Our Guest" and "Beauty and the Beast."
