A Hans Christian Andersen story is given new life in an adaptation for stage by Marjorie Lowry. The story revolves around the plight of a young girl selling matches - in this version in Brooklyn at the turn of the 20th century - to make ends meet. She lives in the notorious Five Points, an area popularized in cinema by Martin Scorcese in "Gangs of New York." As the little girl navigates the Irish slums, she encounters unsavory characters and finds redemption in the memories from her past. The action is set to music for this play that runs during four evenings. Seating is limited and it is better to call ahead to get in. This is local theater perfect for the family to enjoy. [GS]
