Deeper: An Exploration in Ocean Light at Center for Photographic Art

Curator William Giles—who's studied and worked with Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lang and Hollis Todd—assembles a strong line-up of local underwater photographers in this show of black-and-white ocean images that rely less on representation than on interpretation, is focused on the feelings evoked rather than the information relayed, and captures rather than unveils mystery and wonder. They are beautiful pictures. They come from the watertight cameras of Scott Campbell, Chuck Davis, Art Haseltine, Camille Lenore, Robin V. Robinson and Ryuijie. The exhibition opens with an artists' panel in Sunset Center's Carpenter Hall, and is followed upstairs by a reception in the CPA. [WR]
