For the 13th year straight, the Critical Christmas family bike ride brings holiday cheer on two wheels. It’s a cross between the semi-political urban bike phenomenon called Critical Mass and, as organizers put it, “that goofy event in Ukiah involving semi-trucks festooned with hundreds of Christmas bulbs.” The idea: Bring your significant others, your kids and mothers, and soup up your bike with as many LED Christmas lights as you can possibly duct-tape onto the frame. Bonus points for garlands, ornaments, Santa hats and elf stuff. The route will evolve organically, but it will involve laps around the fountain, forays onto the Rec Trail and other Monterey hot spots. Expect Christmas carols and silliness, and post-ride food and drink at a local restaurant. Rain cancels. [KA]
5:45-7:30pm. Leave from Custom House Plaza near Fishermans Wharf, Monterey. Free. www.facebook.com/CriticalChristmasBicycleRide.
