You can tell the folks at Lighthouse Cinemas are film lovers. Take this series, for instance. Four films, $5 each, multiple showings of each, across the span of December, each a classic in its own artistic right but also themed around Christmas in enchanting and different ways. First up is Irving Berlin's White Christmas (Dec. 6 and 8), starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen, in a music-rich story about friends rallying together to save another friend's ski lodge (Western Stage is doing the stage version, fyi, until Dec. 8). Dec. 13 and 15, the 1951 film version of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, starring Alastair Sim as the Scroogiest Scrooge of all time. You've probably seen Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life on TV throughout the millennia, but Dec. 20 and 22 you can catch it on the big screen, with James Stewart and Donna Reed fighting the greed of Old Man Potter with their love for each other, family and community. Finally, on Dec. 27 and 29, Maureen O'Hara and John Payne learn the power that Santa Claus has over little kids in Miracle on 34th Street. God bless us...every one. (See Film story.) [WR]
