Sometimes the best way to ring in the New Year is by making sure you remember it all afterwards. Hitting the sauce is a popular New Year’s pastime, but it ain’t for everyone. So why not check out First Night Monterey, a booze-free and family-friendly arts and music party that’s sure to provide a memorable start to 2013. The streets of downtown Monterey will be alive with dancers, musicians, poets, puppets and food vendors. There will be an array of performances—from classical to rock and roll—at 22 indoor and outdoor venues. Scope the California Cowboys or Fire in the Hamptons at the Monterey Convention Center’s Serra Ballroom, or hop over to the Golden State Theater to see The Black Irish Band and Red Beans and Rice. Or maybe you’d be interested in an evening parade—there will be stilt walkers, floats and dance teams. Whatever you’re into, there’s a chance it will be at at First Night Monterey.
