Mean Girls at Monterey High Theater

The kids of Monterey unfurl four weeks of film adaptations for their stage. It started last week with a double feature of James and the Giant Peach and The Fantastic Mr. Fox, and this weekend falls to a subject near and dear to the anxieties of teens: Mean Girls, about the allegiances and frienemies of the social order of high school. It centers on Cady, a 15-year-old who was raised in Africa but enters the fray of an American high school and must navigate the pecking order among stoners, jocks, cools kids and a band of intimidating girls known as the Plastics. It's good, clean (and catty) fun.
