This is modern American theatre at its sweetest and most indulgent; who doesn't like lighthearted comedy, a frosting coated donut, or a combo of the two? Superior Donuts, a play written by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning author Tracey Letts, is set in Chicago's historic Uptown, and chronicles the relationship between a old white donut shop owner (Arthur Przybyszewski) and his newly hired black employee (Franco Wicks). Przybyszewski's new-hire sets off to enthusiastically update what is a decrepit establishment with live music and newer, healthier options for the shop's menu. What evolves is a friendship between Uptown's old-school and its new-school, that through the delicious combination of fried dough and sugar, helps these men get closer to finding where that elusive donut-hole of life might exist. Superior Donuts is performed Fridays-Sundays from February 10th to March 11th at the Magic Circle Theatre. [GS]
