No genre goes unplayed by this acclaimed ensemble, blending the sounds of jazz with classical and even early music. The unique instrumentation—sax, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet and bassoon—sets the stage for lively and playful interpretations of wide-ranging styles, here sampling Baroque with Georg Muffat's Concerto No. 4 and J.S. Bach's Goldberg Variations (composed for harpsichord) then skipping centuries to Debussy's cinematic Suite Bergamasque and selections from Shostakovich's complex fugues in Opus 87. Musicologist Kai Christensen establishes context for the broad program with a pre-concert lecture. [SR]

7pm pre-concert lecture, 8pm performance. Sunset Center, San Carlos between Eighth and Ninth, Carmel. $31-55/adults; Free/students grades 3-12. 625-2212, www.chambermusicmontereybay.org.
