Save Our Shores is a nonprofit that advocates for the protection of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary and keeping our beaches clean by recruiting members and volunteers, adopting beaches out to businesses or schools, encouraging the reduce, reuse and recycle ethic, and spreading awareness. The second Saturday of each month, 10am-noon, they band together and ask locals to help clean are beaches throughout Monterey County through the rest of the year. The schedule: Jan. 21 Del Monte / Monterey Municipal Beach, Feb. 11 Monterey State Beach (north of Best Western), March 10 Lover's Point in Pacific Grove, April 21 (Earth Day!) Del Monte / Monterey Municipal Beach, May 12 Asilomar State Beach, June 9 Carmel Beach, July 5 is a special Star Spangled beach cleanup 8-10am, July 14 Casa Verde / North Del Monte Beach, Aug. 11 Monterey State Beach (south of Best Western), Sept. 15 is a big annual coastal cleanup at over 80 sites, Oct. 13 Moss Landing State Beach, Nov. 10 Salinas River State Beach at Sandholdt Road, Dec. 8 Fort Ord Dunes State Beach.
