This is world-renowned painter David Ligare's first solo exhibition in California since 2009, which seems incredible considering how accessible he is to us locally and the attention he's garnered from galleries in London, New York and San Francisco, and museums like the Crocker. Luckily, Chris Winfield knows artistic genius when he sees it and so lends his gallery to a show of Ligare's latest, landscapes and scenes of Big Sur, done in his highly realist style, with indulgent "attention to detail and place," which Ligare likens to the New Path artists or the f64 photographers. Light, texture and color are the building blocks of this master's eye and hand. The opening reception today would be a good time to learn more. [WR]
