16th annual NAACP youth summit at Oldemeyer Center

Beginning with a full breakfast and ending in a talent show, the day-long event for youths of all ages balances community awareness and self esteem, with workshops for youths to learn how social media decisions can linger, money management and more with a chance to talk to former members about crucial issues like pursuing an education after teen pregnancy. Parents get to participate too, with childcare freeing them up for a focus group on raising a family on the Monterey Peninsula. Back packs and school supplies with be given out to the first 200 kids to register, and must be collected at the end of the day. [JB]
