The Forest Theater Guild's 2012 season opens with Roald Dahl's classic children's story James and the Giant Peach, about a little orphan boy (his parents having been trampled by a rhino) who goes to live in abject conditions with his miserable aunts. One day a strange old man bestows on James (double cast with Alexandra Roden and Akasha Brown) some magic seeds, a gift that signals the beginning of a wondrous and surprising saga in which he finds himself a resident in a giant peach along with friends like Grass Hopper (Keith Decker, also the narrator), Lady Bird (Koly McBride), Gloworm (Dustin Moore) and others. The original music is composed and conducted by Eric Johnson, costumes and puppetry (with help from YAC artist Cody Moore) by Lady Hull, direction by Nicole Bryant Stephens. A gala "circus" event is slated for the opening Saturday and Sunday, with special entertainment before the matinees. [WR]
