The Legacy of Monterey Photography Contemporaries Party at Monterey Museum of Art-La Mirada

In Sharp Focus: the Legacy of Monterey Photography takes a look at the Group f/64, seven San Francisco photographers characterized by their sharp focus and framing, in juxtaposition to the soft Pictorialist style that dominated early 20th century photography. The group including Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, Edward Weston and Alma Lavenson changed American photography, infusing modernist realism where photography had been demur and arranged. The exhibit complements f/64-ers with works by local photographers Al Weber, John Sexton, Martha Casanave and Bob Kolbrener. [JB]
