San Francisco dance company Smuin is a classical ballet with modern twists. This program exudes the group's edgy flair with four powerful stories. "Dear Miss Cline," crafted by Choreographer in Residence Amy Seiwert, explores a knotted web of relationships while paying homage to Grand Ole Opry star Patsy Cline. Expect to hear classics like "Walkin' After Midnight," "Come On In" and "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down." The program also presents Michael Smuin's "Tango Palace," a tale of passion and possession told through tango. This style of dance was originally performed only in Argentinian brothels and barrooms, fittingly two of "Tango Palace's" settings. "The Eternal Idol" follows, divulging a love story built around the Auguste Rodin sculpture after which it was named. Smuin's response to the 9/11 attacks, titled "Stabat Mater," ends the program on a striking note. [SO]
