An Unexpected Aesthetic: The Search for New Direction at Center for Photographic Art

This show welcomes viewers (and listeners) to the crest of a wave of fine art photography in a show that takes a shotgun approach to an imposing dilemma, as stated by the exhibition's curator Claire Lerner: Ansel Adams and Edward Weston broke with the tradition before them...The burden of the contemporary photographer is the imperative to disrupt convention and continue to evolve." They enlist nine photographers to tackle that task, here by printing on unconventional surfaces like aluminum panels, vintage clothes irons and 3-dimensional objects. In doing so, they are seeking new avenues for photographs to impact the viewer. Innovation. They're aiming at innovation. They are Mary Cheung, Margo Jones-Duvall, Cody Edison, Janet Fine, Genevieve Hastings, Greg Mettler, Ben Nixon, Gary Shallcross and Matthew Vogt.
