Literary Discussion at the Monterey Library

The Monterey Public Library and the Monterey Peninsula Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) team up to encourage people to examine democracy in this election season as part of the California Reads effort of the Cal Humanities's Searching for Democracy initiative, which 51 library jurisdictions are participating in. It begins here with a discussion by Jeanne Watatsuki Houston of her memoir Farewell to Manzanar, which is reprised April 16. The book is describes the author's experience before, during and after her interment at the Manzanar concentration camp. Introducing the discussion will be Mas Hashimoto, who will speak about his own personal experience with the Japanese internment during World War II. Read the book and join in the discussion.
