There are wimpy house dressings and cheap house wines, then there's the Hyatt Rengency's house trio, which sets the tone for the Fireside Lounge's weekly jazz sessions, as the place for serious Jazz fans. With pianist Marshall Otwell (who toured with vocalist Carmen McRae and recorded with Dizzy Gillespie), bassist Nat Johnson and drummer David Morwood, the Fireside Lounge draws new artists from New York and L.A., as well as recording greats in for a live jam. The lounge's monthly Diva Night features the central coast's hottest and newest female vocalists backed by the trio. Past divas have included Japanese jazz singer Mayumi, Julie Capili and Thelma Howard. [JB]
