Tuesday, the Bike Vs Car Challenge, a commuter race between motorists and bicyclists from Marina REI to Monterey Wharf #2 (sign up by Thursday, Mary 3). On Wednesday, Laguna Seca opens its track for its long-standing Twilight Rides. Don't put that kickstand down yet; there are a few more days of Bike Week rounding the corner. For Thursday, the Bike to Work and Bike to School offers free breakfasts 7-9am courtesy of TAMC at various locations for students and workers (see www.tamcmonterey.org) who show up on a bike. H-E-R Helmet Thursday offers discounts to bicyclists at various businesses and organizations (see www.marilynch.com for details). Bike Week takes a break on Friday, but then pedals up again with a new event 10am Saturday, the Intergenerational Ride along the bike trail starting at Fort Ord Dunes State Park, to reconnect 12:30pm for a brown bag lunch. Bike Week ends 8am Saturday with a morning ride with the Velo Club of Monterey for more advanced riders. But June 1, the Company Bike Challenge enlists you and your co-workers to form a team at www.redematch.511.org and compete with other workplaces to rack up the most bicycling commuting miles. Bike Week can last a lifetime. [WR]
