The Met: Live in HD’s Encore of Siegfried at Del Monte's Century Cinemas

Siegfried is the third of four operas in The Ring Cycle, totaling an astonishing 16 hours, by Richard Wagner. First performed as the complete 'cycle' in 1876, Siegfried tells the story of the title character's youth and how he comes of age in the opera's third act. This rebroadcast from The Met's live taping in November of 2011, is a celebration of stage director/wizard, Robert Lepage who employed a 90,000 pound staging apparatus called "The Machine" to make the ambitious production possible. Tenor, Jay Hunter Morris sings the demanding title role as Deborah Voigt sings the female lead, Brunnhilde. The Met's principal conductor Fabio Luisi is in charge of the orchestra, and allows for an intermission during this 4 hour 25 minute masterpiece. [GS]
