Famed Mexican dance troupe Esperanza del Valle returns to San Juan Bautista to perform "Magia y Color" at the annual Dia de los Muertos celebration . The Watsonville-based dance group has been entertaining the Central Coast and beyond for the last 30 years and will bring routines new and old to Teatro Campesino, including their iconic piece "Macaria." Dia de los Muertos—or, Day of the Dead—is a week long festival held to honor loved ones passed. In Mexico it is believed dead relatives return to visit the living on October 31 and leave on November 2. Skulls, skeletons and funerary accoutrements decorate houses and altars as the living and the dead co-exist for a brief time. Esperanza del Valle will not only live alongside the dead on this afternoon, they'll ask them for a dance. [JE]
