Music is a family affair for pianist Jeffrey Kahane, who commissioned a piece by his son, Gabriel, in 2009 for a Lincoln Center recital. He plays Django: Tiny Variations on a Big Dog as well as a newer work in this performance, and also shows off his prowess at the keyboard with technically challenging classics by the likes of J.S. Bach, Chopin, Schumann, Hass, Liszt and Schubert. UC Santa Cruz music professor Anatole Leikin gives a free pre-concert talk at 2pm, helping listeners tune in to this journey through the range of period and style in such an ambitious program. [SR]
