Lead singer and founding member Osvaldo Vergara, has been the one constant for Kombucheros (a natural tea rich in nutrients from China) over the past several years. Though the Santa Cruz-based collective has gone through many different incarnations, it's ultimate goal to share the traditional music of Latin America always remains intact. For Vergara, it's more than just an Afro-Peruvian band, it's a way to introduce people to his cultural roots. "The “Kombucheros” are clear about who we are, what we sing and play, since our only objective is that everyone becomes familiar with Afro Peruvian music," he says. [AJ]
