In the time of the Shang Dynasty jade was used to make daily items to whole burial suits, the "imperial stone" became weapons for New Zealander Maori and art mediums for pre-Colombian Mesoamericans. With jade and other stone art by artists from the U.S., Canada and New Zealand Big Sur's 21st annual fest is one of the largest rock art shows in the world celebrating that ancient stone. Rock hounders can dine on fine food, drop in on lectures and music from drum circles and African dance to The Motowners. [JB]
