When both the program and the artists read like a Best Of guide, you know you've nailed the season opener. Lynn Harrell and Jon Kimura Parker are each versatile performers, and kick off the Carmel Music Society's 86th season with a collection of short pieces from Bach to Beethoven to Prokofiev to Verdi. Harrell will perform haunting solo sarabandes from the Bach cello suites, and Parker a solo Prokofiev sonata. They'll join forces on a Brahms sonata, and sample some longer works. A pre-concert talk begins an hour before the show, and with so many composers and so much chronology to cover, the historical context is particularly helpful. [SR]
