Poet, musician and hemp activist John Trudell has occupied Alcatraz with fellow Native Americans, fought for Leonard Peltier and released a debut CD produced by Jackson Browne—inspired by the tragic loss of his entire family to a suspicious fire set on native lands. The 2005 documentary Trudell tells the story, co-produced by Angelina Jolie and her late mother Marcheline Bertrand, who was close with Trudell. Today, Trudell’s focus is reforming the laws around hemp so it can be used for environmental good. Tonight’s talk will begin with Trudell’s presentation on the less-well-known side of cannabis, followed by a potluck dinner, a screening of Trudell and a Q&A session. [KCA]
Free. 4pm hemp talk, 5:30pm potluck (no alcohol), 6:30pm film screening. Big Sur Grange Hall, 300 feet south of Ripplewood Resort, Big Sur. Please bring a dish to share and your own plate, cup and utensils. JohnTrudell.com, ProjectHeart.com.
