Chesapeake at Carl Cherry Center

What Romney and Obama probably won't talk about this debate season is federal funding for the arts. That's what well-executed live theater by the Carmel Bay Players is for. In Chesapeake, an outrageous performance artist (whose work includes everything from Dadaist nihilim to extravagant disrobing) wins an NEA grant. Until a conservative senator, whose platform is slashing arts funding, goes to Washington, that is. The enraged artist in this one-man show is played by Ron Genauer, who really gets revved up with a sometimes heroic, sometimes stupid effort to exact revenge against his political nemesis. He'll try anything from kidnapping to canines, so long as it's theatrical. [SR]
