  • Where: REI, Marina
  • Cost: Free
  • Age limit: All ages

REI Marina and the Monterey Area Volunteer Resources Administrators Consortium present the fourth annual Get Involved Volunteer Stewardship Expo. Dozens of local conservation nonprofits showcase their projects to the community. Marina Mayor Bruce Delgado will be shaking hands and kissing babies, and even Congressman Sam Farr will make a mid-day appearance to tip his hat to the groundswell of support that helped create the newly designated Fort Ord National Monument. Munch snacks from Whole Foods, take the blender bike on a spin to make organic smoothies, and shop for your own volunteer opportunities. Presenting groups include Bicycle, Equestrian Trails Assistance (BETA), The Big Sur Land Trust , Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County, California Native Plants Society, Chinatown Community Garden, CSUMB Environmental Committee, Elkhorn Slough Reserve & Foundation, Marine Life Studies, MEarth, The Otter Project, Return of the Natives Restoration Education Project, Ventana Wildlife Society and many more. There’s no excuse to watch reality TV on a glorious day when volunteering with groups like these is much more fun. [KA]
10am-2pm. REI Marina, 145 General Stilwell Dr., Marina. 883-8048, www.rei.com.
