GRAND AM Rolex Sports Car Series at Laguna Seca

Two classes of car come to Laguna Seca to duke it out on the renown 2.238-mile road course. The 500hp Daytona Prototype beasts are anything but street legal, with their custom built chassis' and V8 engines; these cars are built to thrill with speed and agility making them a treat to watch burn around the course. The eleven turns in the Laguna Seca's course require an agile car and a heady driver, and the Grand Touring race provides both. Touring cars look normal, but the heavily modified machines are made to accelerate and turn on a dime; during a race it's customary to see jostling and bumping in a tightly packed race. Practice and qualifying starts on Friday; the Grand Touring Race is scheduled for 2:30pm Saturday; the Daytona Prototypes race at noon Sunday. [GS]
