Hidden Valley brings in a stellar cast of opera singers and technical crew (including a lighting guy from the Metropolitan Opera) to stage Giacomo Puccini's classic and beloved opera in honor of Hidden Valley's 50th anniversary. The story of young artists in the Latin Quarter of 19th century Paris follows their travails with love and poverty, wrought emotional through the maestro's accessible, popular and indelible score and libretto (this production, though, is sung not in Italian but in English). The construction of this tragic story served as the basis for the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent and the Baz Luhrman musical film Moulin Rouge! Hidden Valley's full production, though, directed by Robert Darling, with an orchestra conducted by Stewart Robertson and the Camerata Singers chorus directed by John Koza, is a visceral and emotional way to see the story up close, made immediate by high-level operatic talent.
