A new film on a new ocean era premieres in Monterey with, if you will, a splash. Green Fire Production’s Ocean Frontiers: The Dawn of a New Era in Ocean Stewardship travels coast to coast to hear from shippers and farmers, biologists and ecologists, fishermen and snorkelers working together to help sustain a healthy sea. Congressman Sam Farr and other officials put the issues in a political context, followed by the 60-minute film, a panel discussion with community leaders and finally a reception with sustainable seafood and wine. The event is free, thanks to support from almost two dozen local entities with a stake in ocean health—including the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, celebrating its 20th anniversary. [KA]
3-7pm. Film & Discussion: Golden State Theatre, 417 Alvarado St., Monterey. Reception: Museum of Monterey, 5 Custom House Plaza, Monterey. Free. www.ocean-frontiers.org, www.facebook.com/OceanFrontiers
