This festival returns with boatloads of oceanographic films, speakers, panels, luminaries, scientists, photographers and filmmakers, explorers, technicians and film executives. It's all a concerted effort to share information, art and technology about the ocean, to inspire greater understanding and stewardship. It's segmented into four overlapping areas: the film festival, industry events, conservation summit and marquee events. Among the luminaries include Dr. Sylvia Earle, members of the Cousteau family, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, Capt. Don Walsh (one of three people who have made the submersible dive into the deepest part of the Mariana Trench; James Cameron is the another). And the films number more than 100 this year, a tidal swell more than the last one two years ago. See the website's schedule to guide you through the plethora. [WR]
Various times Mon-Sun, Sept. 24-30, and locations throughout Monterey County. www.BlueOceanFilmFestival.org.
