The company at Paper Wing Theatre is willing to push the bounds of what audiences can handle, facing mental illness, sexual violence and family dysfunction head-on. They're good at that, but it's nice to see this actor's favorite, The Last Five Years, again highlight the simple side of theatrical arts instead of big, glitzy productions. Set in a smaller, more intimate theater, this musical follows two characters in reverse chronological order. The struggling actor and successful novelist never directly interact on stage, except when their forward- and backward-moving tales intersect for a wedding song. It's a high-stamina show to act, but Paper Wing's always up for a challenge. [SR]
