CSUMB's EMPOWER club is "dedicated to empowering women through art, culture and education." One of the ways they do that is by putting on this annual performance of Eve Ensler's famed Vagina Monologues, talking candidly about women's sexuality and strength and the honoring and protection of such. Topics like this weren't very public before Ensler wrote the stage work that is shared and shaped by different women with each their own stories. This year's beneficiary is the Monterey Rape Crisis Center and the Triangle Speakers, but the performances are also connected to a massive campaign called 1 Billion Rising (coming to Monterey to coincide with V-Day Feb. 14) that is enlisting countless women and groups across the world to stand up against domestic violence and rape.
