Following in the same hilarious footsteps as Chicago-bred comedians John Belushi, Martin Short and Steve Carell, The Second City performs both scripted and improvisational comedy with verve. With it’s beginnings founded in the work of Viola Spolin, The Second City has freshened up the old-fashioned routines and reinstated relevance—rapping on everything from political tomfoolery to the ridiculous over-exposure of the Kardashians. Spolin’s son founded the group alongside funnymen Howard Alk and Bernie Sahlins, keeping the tradition of great onstage comedy alive while bringing into the 21st Century. [JE]
