This San Francisco quartet does intimate, evocative and novel things on guitar, violin (the violin belongs to Anton Patzner of Judgement Day, taking a break from touring with Bright Eyes) and the voice of lead singer/guitarist Laura Weinbach, who veers close to the preciousness of Joanna Newsom. "I'm Not Really Into the Christmas Mood This Year" is a sad, pouty anti-holiday song, sung in a torchy jazz timbre, a flashback to a bygone era that's be resurrected again and again. The song is bittersweet, a nice downer to add to the repertoire of carols. Their other songs are as pretty.
