Symphonic Duo at Western Stage

Organist Matteo Galli gave his fingers a break from practicing to rummage through Italian music archives in 2005, and discovered Verdi's Requiem for Piano and Organ—the first time the lost work had been seen since 1875. WIth pianist Francesco Attesti, Galli's breathed new life into this haunting work, and with 20 fingers on the keys, this duo injects big power into many not-so-delicate classics. They'll also play works by Beethoven, Schubert and Rossini. And Hartnell College music students will play alongside these acclaimed musicians at an afternoon master class, open to the public, where they'll hone the finer technical points of piano and organ technique. A reception follows in the Hartnell art gallery. [SR]
