This solo piano concert features two outstanding musicians. Michael Martinez, raised in Pacific Grove, has moved through genres quickly in his 22 years. He was trained by local pianist and composer Jonathan Lee at age 13, then when Lee died in 2004, inherited his mantle as the Grand Piano Man for the Big Sur International Marathon. In high school Martinez studied jazz, and later won the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. He studied the blues with Carmel's Stu Heydon, and went on to play the 25th Monterey Bay Blues Festival. He's recorded his second CD, Big Sur Reminiscence 2012, and bestows his deft skill all over locally. Joe Bongiorno, from Sedona, Arizona, plays elegant candlelight music and has recorded many discs and made a name with his smooth, suave playing.
6:30pm. Canterbury Woods Auditorium, 651 Sinex Ave., Pacific Grove. Free. 373-3111, michael@michaelmartinezmusic.com.
